Our Program Mission

The mission of the UNM Internal Medicine Residency Program is to train exceptional internal medicine residents to serve the urban, rural, primary care and subspecialty healthcare needs of New Mexico.

We aim to do this by:

• Recruiting trainees who are drawn to the mission of being service-focused, and who represent, respect, and honor the population that we serve in NM.
• Preparing our trainees to excel at caring for patients with diverse and complex needs by offering a variety of clinical exposures, an innovative curriculum, and exceptional role-models and leaders.
• Cultivating resident success through focused mentorship, career development, and opportunities for scholarly pursuits.  
• Creating a supportive learning environment that focuses on resident well-being, support of diversity in ideas and background, teamwork, and intellectual curiosity.
